XGRIDS Scanathon Košice

A two-day hands-on event for reality capture. On day one, four groups scan the same building with three XGRIDS scanners. On day two, you process the data and we discuss the results side by side.

Scan on Friday. Process and discuss on Saturday.

You work in a mixed group of architects, engineers, developers and site supervisors. All four groups scan the same building with the same three scanners, so on Saturday you can see what each device, and each operator, really delivers. There are no points and no winners.

  1. 1

    Bootcamp

An hour of hands-on training. Two members of each group learn one device or the processing software, then lead their group on it.

    When

    Friday · 09:20–10:20

  2. 2

    Scanning rounds

Four rounds on one building: a walkable 3D scene with PortalCam, point clouds with Lixel L3 and L2 Pro, and one round to plan your route and review your data.

    When

    Friday · 10:30–14:50

  3. 3

    Overnight processing

3DGS scenes train overnight on our workstations, so nobody waits for a progress bar.

    When

    Friday night

  4. 4

    Q&A and processing

Ask the questions Friday raised, then clean, georeference and publish your group's data with mentors at the table.

    When

    Saturday · 09:30–14:15

  5. 5

    Outcome discussion

Twelve datasets of the same building side by side: accuracy, coverage, visual quality, time, and what each output is good for.

    When

    Saturday · 14:30–16:00

Programme

Day one is for scanning, day two for processing and discussing the results. Almost ten hours of the two days are hands-on.

  2. 09:30–10:15

    Q&A

Open questions on Friday's capture: device settings, walking routes, RTK, what went wrong and why.

  3. 10:15–12:30

Try any device and talk about your own projects.

One building, three ways.

All four groups scan the same building, historical or modern; we announce which with the venue. Before the event, an authorised surveyor measures reference points on it, and on Saturday we check every point cloud against them.

Twelve datasets of one building

Four groups × three devices, all ready to compare on Saturday.

Processing in LixelStudio (point clouds) and Lixel CyberColor (3DGS scenes).

What we discuss on Saturday

Four groups, three devices, one building. Nothing is ranked: there are no points, no jury and no winners. The aim is to see what the devices and the workflow really deliver.

Question How we look at it
How accurate is each device?Point clouds checked against the surveyed reference points
How complete is the capture?Coverage and holes, inside and outside
How good does it look?Visual quality of the 3DGS scenes and point-cloud colour
How much does the operator matter?Same device, same building, four groups: how far apart the results are
What does it cost in time?Field time and processing time per dataset
What is each output good for?Documentation, renovation, design context, sharing with clients

The discussion is open to visitors on Saturday from 14:30.

Three scanners, one rotation

Every group uses all three XGRIDS devices on the same building. Three groups scan at the same time while the fourth plans its route and reviews its data, then everyone rotates. Routes are staggered so groups stay out of each other's scans.
